Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
